This article seeks to explore the real roles of our traditional leaders in Zimbabwe. Having a look at our constitution as well as the Traditional Leaders Act and the RDC Act as well as the Communal Lands Act it is beyond reasonable doubt that there is proper mix of Democratic Institutions and Traditional Institutions.The rural local authorities are the planning authorities of communal and resettlement land but have got traditional leaders in their sub- district structures hence the traditional leadership constitute the institutional environment.
As we grew up in my rural area, in Chiweshe, at Goteka shopping centre, it was every little kid’s future vision to be in town most preferably Harare, where it was believed there is good and classy life. Town life was everyone’s dream indeed. Asking a child what he or she would want to do after school the answer was going to Harare where there is better life, and plenty of employment opportunities.
